In the latter part of World War II, a boy and his sister, orphaned when their mother is killed in the firebombing of Tokyo, are left to survive on their own in what remains of civilian life in Japan. The plot follows this boy and his sister as they do their best to survive in the Japanese countryside, battling hunger, prejudice, and pride in their own quiet, personal battle. Quite possibly the saddest movie, ever.

Howl’s Moving Castle

A plain young hatter named Sophie has her life changed when an evil witch transforms her into an old woman. Along the way, Sophie helps a turnip headed scarecrow, who repays her by leading her to the moving castle owned by the dreaded wizard Howl. There she befriends Howl’s apprentice Markl, Howl’s fire demon Calcifer, and eventually, Howl himself. Sophie then becomes the castle’s cleaning lady in an effort to not only find the solution to her problem but to save Howl from his own terrible secrets as well.

Pom Poko

Faced with the destruction of their habitat due to the growth of Tokyo, a group of tanuki try to defend their homes. They decide to use their transforming talents to try to hold back the new development. Two of them, especially skilled at transforming, are sent to Shikoku to enlist the help of three sages. Meanwhile, the rest of them do their best to disrupt the construction site, at first causing accidents, and then actually haunting the site. However, the humans are very persistent, and soon the tanuki are forced to use more and more extreme measures to save their home.
The forest home of the raccoons in Tama Hills is being threatened by human development. The raccoons decide to fight back by using ancient magical art to transform their bodies into objects, sometimes even into humans. They trick and scare the humans in the beginning, but eventually their fight turns tragic as some of the raccoons are killed. Finally, they are forced to seek the help of the foxes from a neighboring forest who have already given up their fight and are living as humans in the city…

The Cat Returns
This movie is somehow related to Whisper of the heart, it follows Muta (the cat from Whisper of the heart) and Baron (the cat statue in Whisper of the heart, also used in Shizuku`s story). The story is based on Neko no Danshaku (Baron of Cat) by Hiiragi Aoi.

The main character of the story is Haru. Haru is a clueless, ordinary 17 year-old girl. She has no special abilities and neither is she an extraordinary beauty. When faced with reality, she is unable to make decisions for herself, thus often swaying to others` opinions to avoid challenge. One day, Haru saved the life of a cat without consideration of her own safety. The cat turned out to be the Cat Prince from the Kingdom of Cats, however as a result, Haru is trapped in the world of cats. Can Baron and Muta rescue Haru who has wandered in the world of cats?
